The arms of this sofa are carved with heads of the leopards who drew Bacchus’s chariot. The top rail is carved with a shell, emblematic of Venus, the goddess of love.The decorative scheme is completed with Acanthus leaves, representing the Corinthian order of architecture, and palm leaves, emblematic of triumph. This sofa was part of a suite of fifty-six pieces.
