This miniature copy of Delaroche’s 27-metre mural in the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris depicts the most celebrated painters, sculptors and architects of the past, with the ancients – Apelles, Phidias, and Ictinus – seated at the centre. They are flanked by female personifications of Gothic, Greek, Roman and Renaissance art.
