The view from the unfinished terrace, Osborne House

c.1848

Pencil, watercolour and bodycolour | 18.9 x 34.4 cm (whole object) | RCIN 919848

William Leighton Leitch taught Charlotte Canning, one of Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting and a good amateur watercolourist, and she recommended the artist to her royal mistress. This watercolour is probably primarily by Canning, with Leitch assisting with elements of the composition and colouring.
