HUGH BUCHANAN (B. 1958)

Royal Lodge, Windsor Great Park

dated 1990

RCIN 453275

Great structural changes were made to Deputy Ranger’s Lodge in the early nineteenth century when the Prince Regent used it as his Windsor residence, and transformed it into a rambling cottage orné. On his accession in 1830 his brother William IV pulled down all the original building shown in Sandby’s views and much of the new building too. In 1931 King George V offered Royal Lodge, as it had become known, to the Duke and Duchess of York. This view by Hugh Buchanan was commissioned as a ninetieth birthday present for Queen Elizabeth from the Crown Estate Staff of Windsor Great Park.
