SIMON BOURGUET (C.1705–73, MAÎTRE 1740)
Écuelle, cover and stand
1762-63RCIN 48397
This travelling basin and stand are engraved with Napoleon's cipher. Most of Napoleon's belongings were created in a contemporary Imperial style; these pieces by contrast are rather old-fashioned and must have had some personal significance to the Emperor. They were reputedly taken from the French baggage train immediately after the battle.
