1806-08

RCIN 61170

In 1813 the Allied armies, led by Lord Wellington (as he was then known), defeated the French at the Battle of Vitoria in Spain. The French were led by Napoleon's brother, Joseph Bonaparte. The battle was the decisive moment in the Peninsular Wars and led to a dukedom and promotion for Wellington. Among the trophies he sent to the Prince Regent after the battle was Bonaparte's sword.
