During June 1814 celebrations were held throughout Britain following the exile of Napoleon to Elba. Among these was a service held at the Royal Garrison Church in Portsmouth, attended by Marshal Blücher, commander of the Prussian army, who personally presented the Prince Regent with this sword, which he had worn during his campaigns against the Emperor over the previous two years.
