On 29 June 1976, The Queen held a reception at Buckingham Palace to mark the centenaries of Treaties 6 and 7 (the latter to fall the following year). Six First Nations Chiefs from the Alberta region and their wives represented the original Indigenous signatories of the agreements. The party came to London as part of a 10-day tour to commemorate the treaties. In a prepared statement, Chief John Snow of the Stoney Band stressed the need to honour the original intent of the treaties, saying ‘the importance of these sacred promises made between our people and the Crown cannot be understated’.
