September 1782RCIN 401007
This oval portrait of Queen Charlotte is part of a set of 15 portraits by Thomas Gainsborough of the Royal Family (RCINs 401006-20). They were probably commissioned by Queen Charlotte, and were painted by Gainsborough at Windsor in the early autumn of 1782.
They were displayed at the Royal Academy exhibition in 1783 before being hung in Queen Charlotte's apartments at Buckingham House.
