Elegant in form and decoration, this writing table was delivered to Louis XVI’s private study at the Petit Trianon in 1777, en suite with a fall-front desk, a chest of drawers and another writing table. The frieze of the table has been mounted with gilt bronze in the form of scrolling acanthus leaves, whilst the top is decorated with trellis work marquetry and a trophy representing Poetry and Literature.
