With the advent of photography, there was a more instant means of capturing the Royal wedding. The first royal couple that were photographed was the future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. This hand coloured albumen print has the initials 'V.R' and the date 24 May, suggesting that it might have been a birthday present to Queen Victoria.
Princess Alexandra's wedding dress was of completely British manufacture. The white satin skirt was adorned with flounces of Honiton lace and swags of artificial orange blossom. The Prince of Wales wore the robes of the Order of the Garter.
