Medal commemorating the marriage of Princess Elizabeth, daughter of James I, to the Elector Frederick, Count of the Palatinate of the Rhine.
c.1616RCIN 443083
A medal struck to commemorate the marriage of Elisabeth Stuart, sister of the English King Charles I, to Frederick V, Elector of the Palatine, in 1613. The wedding was a grand ceremony, held at Whitehall Palace, and was marked by a huge outpouring of public affection for the princess.
Elisabeth is remembered as the 'Winter Queen', after her husband was forced to give up the Kingdom of Bohemia after only a year's reign at the beginning of the Thirty Years' War.
