The history of Royal weddings as seen through items in the Royal Collection

WILLIAM SPOONER : 377 STRAND

SPOONER'S PANORAMIC VIEW OF THE QUEEN'S MARRIAGE PROCESSION

published 1840

RCIN 813076

This volume highlights the burgeoning interest in mementos of royal weddings. Published by William Spooner, the panorama opens into a nearly three metre depiction of the procession of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and their retinue, across St James' Palace into the Chapel Royal, where their wedding was held. Spooner had earlier published a similar panorama of Queen Victoria's Coronation, and produced other such 'novelty' items of memorabilia, for example a peep show of the Great Exhibition of 1851.
