Dagger and scabbard

c.1877

RCIN 11289

This dagger was a late gift to the Prince from Mangal Singh, Maharaja of Alwar, and was delivered to him in 1877. It was immediately put on display with the rest of the Prince's presents, which at the time were on display at Bethnal Green Museum (Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood). It was praised for its ingenious design. The dagger's blade is made of steel and bored in four sections to reveal loose seed pearls that move along the passage when the dagger is tilted.
