The Prince spent two weeks on a hunting excursion on the frontiers of Nepal as a guest of Bir Narsingh Kunwar, Prime Minister of Nepal. The de facto ruler of Nepal had previously visited Queen Victoria in 1850 on a diplomatic mission. This visit and the Prime Minister's support during the Indian Rebellion (1857) ensured that Nepal enjoyed strong political links with the British Crown.
