Whilst in Lahore, the Prince spent an evening at Jammu, the Maharaja of Kashmir’s winter capital. As he was departing Jammu, the Maharaja presented the Prince with this jewel-encrusted sword with a solid gold hilt inset with rubies, diamonds and carved emeralds. The sword, with the Maharaja's name inscribed on the blade in Sanskrit, was the ruler's personal sword.
