Now halfway through his four-month tour of India, the Prince left Delhi for Lahore on 17 January. He was welcomed with banners and this triumphal arch. Many of the rulers of Punjab were waiting at the train station to meet him with their richly caparisoned elephants and horses. In Lahore the Prince attended an evening fete at Shalimar Gardens, built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, and visited the Lahore Museum
