Prince Philip was the fifth child and only son of Prince and Princess Andrew of Greece. His father, Prince Andrew, was the fourth son of King George I of Greece. Prince Philip’s mother was born Princess Alice of Battenberg at Windsor Castle in 1888. She was a great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria through the Queen's second daughter Alice. The photograph was taken in 1903, the year of their marriage and eighteen years before Prince Philip’s birth.
