    The Embarkation of Charles II at Scheveningen

    Charles II departed from Scheveningen, near The Hague, on 23 May 1660. He travelled on board the newly renamed ship The Royal Charles, and set sail for Dover. The huge crowds who watched the king's departure for his homeland can be seen on the wide expanse of beach and undulating dunes.
