REMBRANDT VAN RIJN (LEIDEN 1606-AMSTERDAM 1669)
Agatha Bas (1611-1658)
RCIN 405352
However many important portraits by Rubens, Van Dyck and Rembrandt George IV stood to inherit from his father, he wanted more. This is the quintessential purchase – a Rembrandt in perfect condition from the time of the Night Watch. The costume and illusionistic frame is peculiarly tangible; the shadows and expression are peculiarly intangible.
Acquired by George IV in 1819
