SÈVRES PORCELAIN FACTORY
Gobelet litron

This cup and saucer feature two different scenes, which historically were believed to be after the work of the Dutch artist Philips Wouwermans (c.1619 – 1668). This would have appealed to George IV, who owned nine works by Wouwermans. Subsequent research has identified these scenes as from a painting by C.W. Weisbrod.
Acquired by George IV from Joseph Fogg, 1828. The bill reads ‘A [very fine blue ground Seve Cup and Saucer] with Wouvermans Medallion.’
