Thomas Campbell, from Edinburgh, established a studio in Rome in 1818 and produced portrait busts for many eminent visitors. On his return he worked in London and undertook a number of commissions for monuments in Scotland. The Duke of Gordon was a soldier, politician, Keeper of the Great Seal of Scotland and Governor of Edinburgh Castle. Recorded in the Royal Collection by 1872
