List of jewels and metalwork belonging to Edward I, 1297

This document is the oldest item held in the Royal Archives. Written in Norman French on vellum, it lists items of jewellery and precious metalwork belonging to Edward I (r. 1272–1307), such as gilded cups, golden crowns and a golden garland decorated with pearls and precious stones. Valuations are also given, and it appears that the objects listed were sent to the Low Countries to be used in diplomatic negotiations or with the intention of raising a loan secured on the items.

The income from your ticket contributes directly to The Royal Collection Trust, a registered charity. The aims of The Royal Collection Trust are the care and conservation of the Royal Collection, and the promotion of access and enjoyment through exhibitions, publications, loans and educational activities.
