Queen Victoria's children often made cards and drawings for their parents as gifts on important dates. This watercolour by Princess Louise for Christmas 1861, shows the English folklore figure, Dick Whittington. The tale of Dick Whittington and his cat was even then a popular pantomime during the festive season, with the first recorded performance taking place in 1814.
