Royal Jubilees
Milestone years have been celebrated in long reigns since George III
Queen Elizabeth II
Diamond Jubilee, 2012
The events of the Diamond Jubilee in 2012 followed much the same pattern as the previous two Jubilees, marked by Queen Elizabeth II travelling around the country, while other members of the Royal Family travelled throughout the nations of the Commonwealth.
In order to create lasting legacies of the occasion, the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust was set up as a charitable foundation to support projects across the Commonwealth, and the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Wood was planted in Leicestershire. The Jubilee weekend included a pageant on the river Thames, a maritime parade of 1,000 boats.
On 4 June, the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral was followed by a formal lunch in Westminster Hall and an appearance on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, with a fly-past by the Red Arrows and other historic aircraft. The day ended with a concert on The Mall.
