Wordsworth became Poet Laureate in 1843, and when in 1845 a new edition of his poetry was published, Queen Victoria requested a copy. The poet had this copy specially bound for the Queen in green goatskin with elaborate gold tooling. Wordsworth also included a dedicatory poem written in his own hand.
