RALPH HEIMANS (B. 1970)

HRH The Duke of Edinburgh (1921-2021)

2017

Oil on canvas | RCIN 408644

Ralph Heimans painted Prince Philip in 2017, the year of his retirement, standing in the Grand Corridor at Windsor Castle wearing the blue and red Windsor uniform worn by the Royal Family for semi-formal occasions at the Castle, with the pale blue sash and badge of the Danish Order of the Elephant. The painting to the right is Laurits Tuxen’s The Family of Queen Victoria in 1887 which includes a portrait of his mother, below which is a tureen from the Flora Danica dinner service presented by the Ladies of Denmark to Princess Alexandra of Denmark for her wedding to the future King Edward VII in 1863.
